Battery technology has advanced rapidly over the past five years. Batteries are the heart of every electric vehicle. Together with the battery management system batteries are the crucial components of the electric drive train.
Conventional batteries are heavy or have low energy density, but the new Lithium-ion technology ensures sufficient range, making electrically powered vehicles applicable in many, many situations. Technology may still be expensive, but in general it is expected that increased demand (hence production) will reduce the pressure of high prices.
In the past especially insufficient battery performance prevented electric driving from breaking through. However, advantages are significant and today’s technology allows full benefit of these advantages.
